Two Central Coast Shooting Locations

Spooner's Cove

at Montana de Oro State Park, CA

Spooner’s Cove is a secluded inlet along the Montana de Oro coastline. Its colorful pebble beach is framed by golden cliffs, with waves that crash around jagged formations and sea caves accessible at low tide. In January, the coast is cooler and quieter, with soft, even light in the morning and bright, airy tones at midday, leading into dramatic sunsets. Stretching just over 100 meters from end to end, the cove's short length makes it easy to utilize the entire beach, allowing for a wide range of stunning coastal backgrounds.

Cayucos Pier

The historic Cayucos Pier stretches over a wide sandy beach with open, unobstructed views of the ocean. In January, the coast is cooler and quieter, with a low sun that casts soft, even light throughout the day. Portraits can be captured on the pier itself with its classic wooden planks and railings, beneath the pier among the weathered wooden posts for dramatic, textured shots, and along the surrounding beach where the open sand and waves create airy, iconic California beach backdrops.
